Investing Time
Investing Time is a contemporary play written by Somerset playwright, Sam Elsby. The Festival’s part-staged rehearsed reading will be its first public performance.
Synopsis:
Thirty-something Nick has lost his high-powered job and is back in his hometown living with his sister, Juliette. She is increasingly irritated by his reliance on her. Nick finds a prop of sorts in Mrs Rivera, who cleans for Juliette, and she interests him in a controversial local issue.
Juliette invites their parents’ round, Caroline and David, along with her best friend Ellie. Family dynamics and friendships are explored while, to Juliette’s concern, Nick and Ellie hit it off.
Further character interactions reveal past events, and we start to feel that all might not be as it seems. Nick thinks that he has found an answer to his financial problems. The final scene contains a twist, which disrupts the certainties of their lives.
In a plot that covers relationships and choices, the story remains engaging throughout, with some good moments of comic counterpoint.
A proportion of the proceeds of the ticket sales from this show will be given to Root Connections to help support their work in the local area.
Sam Elsby - Playwright
Root Connections is key to the wrap-around care & support provided to residents of the Dairy House (Direct Access Hostel) and to the wider community. By offering creative social and therapeutic pathways, our project re-connects vulnerable adults with complex needs to community life. The project aims to build confidence, re-engages, develops social skills and offers practical help around re-skilling and re-training for work & a more sustainable future.
The residents staying with us on-site in the Dairy House are welcome to use as much of the fresh produce as they like in their daily cooking, and where possible we turn our fruit & veg in to jams, chutney & pesto.
We also deliver veg boxes and flower bouquets within the local area and love how this connects us to our neighbours and community. If ever we have a glut of produce, we share it with local community projects, fridges & food banks/pantries.
